As the holiday season is underway, I find it only appropriate that we talk about one of my favorite holiday topics, Christmas tree decor. One of the most popular Christmas traditions is setting up a Christmas tree, and there are countless ways you can decorate these trees to create a festive and unique look. In this blog post, we will explore three styles of Christmas tree decorations that I find to be the most iconic.

  1. Traditional

For many people, the traditional style of Christmas tree decorations is the epitome of the holiday season. This style often incorporates red, green, and gold colors, and it may include classic elements like ribbons, bows, and ornaments. To create a traditional Christmas tree, start by choosing a tree with a full, classic shape. Next, add lights to the tree, wrapping them around the branches in a spiral pattern. Once the lights are in place, add garlands, using a mix of colors and textures to create a complete and festive look. Finally, add ornaments and other decorations, using a blend of classic shapes like balls and stars. Of course, this look would not be complete without the two most essential decor pieces. These two iconic pieces are the tree topper and the tree skirt! A huge mistake people fall into is not capitalizing on the extra flare that the tree skirt can add to your tree.

  1. Rustic

For a more relaxed and natural look, try a rustic Christmas tree. Perfect for the lowkey family or budding couple who want to skip all the flashiness this year. This style incorporates outdoor elements using natural materials like pine cones, twigs, and berries ( I recommend plastic ones, but you do you!)  to create a festive look. To create a rustic Christmas tree, start by choosing a tree with a more natural shape, such as a Fraser fir or a Balsam Fir. Next, add lights to the tree, wrapping them around the branches in a more organic pattern. Avoid using too many lights, as this can create a cluttered and overly decorated look. Instead, aim for a more subtle and natural effect. The lights should give a layer of color but not be so overpowering it draws away from the natural lore of the tree.

Once the lights are in place, add natural elements like pine cones, berries, and twigs to the tree. You can use these materials to create garlands or attach them directly to the branches. Use a mix of colors and textures to create a dynamic and interesting look. Finally, add ornaments and other decorations that complement the rustic style. These could include wooden ornaments, burlap ribbons, and who can forget the homemade array of ornaments you’ve lugged from the attic? Some of my favorite ornaments are the ones made at home.

  1. Eclectic

If you want to create a unique and personal Christmas tree, you may want to try an eclectic style. This style incorporates a mix of different colors, textures, and themes, allowing you to create a tree that reflects your own personal aesthetic. The goal of this style of tree is to obtain that shock value, and this holiday tree is the first thing you notice in a room.

To create an eclectic Christmas tree, start by choosing a tree with a more modern shape, such as an artificial tree or a slim and narrow live tree. Next, add lights to the tree, using a mix of colors and patterns. You can experiment with different light displays, such as twinkling lights, chasing lights, or even color-changing lights. I highly recommend the ones with Bluetooth capacity so you can sync your new color-changing lights with your favorite Christmas songs. Once the lights are in place, add garlands and other decorations to the tree. You can use a mix of different materials and colors, incorporating elements like ribbons, ornaments, and even small presents or toys. Be creative and have fun, and don’t be afraid to mix and match different themes and styles to create a truly unique tree.

Whatever style of Christmas tree decorations you choose, the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the process. The holiday season is a time for celebration and joy; your Christmas tree reflects that spirit. So take some time to plan and design your tree, and enjoy the process of creating a festive and beautiful space in your home.
